A REVIEW OF HIS WORK
Ilija makes a composition using curved lines and
surfaces treated by carving and tapping. The stone he chooses
(stalactite) is usually of such a shape that he can only complete the
work already started by time, wind and rain. His figures of old men,
animals and monsters possess a general and condensed character, being
reduced to idols. Fish-like mouth and big oval eyes preserve the secret
of origin and constant resistance. They are rendered individually or in
a group, closely connected and interwoven in the process of constant
movement and imbuing.
